OUR FARM

Green Gully Organics have practiced organic farming since 1990 and is certified by the Australian Certified Organic (ACO) certification stream.
The property retains many acres of native vegetation and has been in the family since Victoria’s settlement period.

Situated in Macclesfield, it is the home of the Heppell family.
“We believe that organic produce should be affordable and accessible by everyone, so our goal is to be able to supply healthy, nutrient dense and easily accessible organic produce to all communities around Melbourne”.
- Shelley Heppell

WHY ORGANIC?

Farmers have grown food organically for thousands of years, sustaining the health of the soil year after year.
This has been achieved through the use of good quality composts, manures and other treatments that not only feed the soil but also the beneficial organisms within it (bacteria, fungi, earthworms etc).
In return, these critters keep soil diseases and other nasties in check while releasing nutrients that contribute to strong and healthy plants and people.

At the other end of the scale, conventional farming methods allow an imbalanced soil biology, making for vulnerable plants.
As a response to this, chemical farmers often need to resort to chemical fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides to prop up the health of their crops and to counter the pest and disease problems that are more likely to arise without the protection of the beneficial organisms.

Such chemicals can then pollute our waterways, soils and air with little knowledge about the damaging effects on farmers, their families and the consumers who are eating this treated food.

The solution?  Support organic farming and buy your produce from certified organic growers that look after the soil and the environment.

WHY BUY DIRECTLY FROM US?

There are many rewarding benefits to buying food directly from farmers.
For you, the consumer, this means fresher produce and a connection to the people who grow your food.
For the economy, it means supporting local growers.
For the environment, it means reducing food miles and, by buying from organic growers, it means supporting ecologically sustainable agriculture.

Our current food system has created a market where farming is now unviable for many farming families, as competition from cheap overseas imports and the pressure from the large food corporations demand a cheaper and cheaper product from growers.  By supporting farmers directly you can avoid the middle-man and help give local and sustainable agriculture a solid future.

We supply mixed boxes of fresh organic fruit and vegetables at pickup hubs and a home delivery option throughout Melbourne allowing members to purchase from us week to week.  In addition, when there is an abundance of crop we will often bring along the surplus to share with members, such as the option of taking home free saucing tomatoes with your box etc.

So by buying from Green Gully Organics directly, not only can you buy fresh produce, you are supporting organic farming practices that are healthy for the consumer, the grower and the environment.

Green Gully Organic's produce can be purchased from farmers markets, local community food buying groups and home delivery.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is always kept front of mind when it comes to preparing your boxes.
We use cardboard boxes, paper bags for our loose items and a NEW addition we are very excited about is our new compostable bags!

We also have existing customers that request we reuse their cardboard boxes, if you are comfortable with reusing a box please specify it at check out.
